Journey Through Time: Celebrating 5 Years of Excellence

The UABSA will be hosting a Black History Month (BHM) Gala dedicated to celebrating BHM. We welcome Black students, allies, and esteemed members of the Edmonton community to share in this celebration.

Under the theme "Journey Through Time: Celebrating 5 Years of Excellence in UABSA," this gala aims to pay homage to the visionary creators who founded UABSA. Moreover, it spotlights the ongoing contributions of today's Black students, who, through their endeavors, continue to shape and define the history of the Black community at the University of Alberta.

FAQs

  • With your ticket you will be getting a 3-course meal, red carpet photos, access to the BHM market, access to the afterparty, the fashion show, performance from several artists, a 360 photo booth and much more!

  • Traditional/Cultural Regalia and/or Formal

  • We will have a variety of African, Carribbean, Black (ACB) cuisine catered to people's culinary needs and restrictions. Our main attraction is jollof rice, jerk chicken, and other mouth-watering dishes. The food is catered and donated by several participating local businesses.

  • The afterparty will feature dancing, desserts, mingling, an attractive photobooth, and much more. The music and vibes will be especially curated by DJ Keez!

  • There is ample parking at The Royal Palace Venue! If you have problems navigating the venue on the day of the Gala, please DM us on Instagram or send us a quick email.

  • Yes, the venue has wheelchair accessibility and we will do our best to accommodate every accessibility request mentioned in your ticket form.

  • Our event features several things, and we've done our best to adjust the price to be student-friendly. A similar event of this scale would charge a minimum of $60. We want everyone to celebrate BHM with us at our Gala! If financial costs are a barrier to this, please email us at bsauofa@ualberta.
