The history of Black Albertans is rich and diverse, filled with stories of men and women who made a home here, stood up for civil rights and fought for to make Alberta a better and more just place for all.
On Tue, Feb 7 from Noon to 1:00pm to watch the 7th Annual Celebration of Black History Month at the Alberta Legislature. Albertans can attend in person or watch online on the LAO website here.
This year’s community speaker will be Sarah Adomako-Ansah, an Edmonton elementary school teacher with Edmonton Catholic Schools who has been working toward more representation and diversity in Alberta's education system. She is also the co-founder of the province's first Black Teachers' Association and was the educator-in-residence with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in 2021.
The featured vocalist is Timothy Noel, and featured poet is Charlee Queen XO.
Albertans are invited to attend in person at the Alberta Legislature. The ceremony will also be livestreamed online at www.assembly.ab.ca and on the Legislative Assembly of Alberta’s Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook pages.
